Heart Shaped Box//Ch.2

Nick's POV:

I don't think there were any words to describe how pissed I was at that moment, and my brothers had the nerve to sit there and take the shit that was handed to them.  I wanted things to go back to the way they used to be.  Back when we made our own decisions, and no one questioned our authority; not even our parents.  Just as I was about to hit the down button in front of the elevator, I heard a familiar voice cry out in pain.  I turned around to see Kevin squirming on the ground in pain.  Oh, freaking lovely, here goes Mr. Drama King, I thought.  I totally hated when he went all attention whore on people.

"What is your problem now?" I asked in an exasperated voice.  I walked back over to where my parents were standing.  My mind went numb as soon as I laid my eyes on Kevin.  He was completely pale in the face; he looked like death.  I hated myself for the thoughts I had about him earlier.  Just by looking at him, I could tell that he hadn't been putting on an act.  There really was something wrong...

Kevin's POV:

I had never felt so much physical pain in my entire life.  I know Joe didn't mean to hurt me, but he could have given me a little nudge in the shoulder instead of punching me in the effing stomach.  "Kevin, honey, what's hurting you?" my mom said softly.  I don't think she got the memo that I wasn't 3 years old anymore.  "It's just my stomach.  I'm okay, I just need a minute to collect myself before I get up."

Mom sighed, "Okay honey.  Joseph, I can't believe you did that.  You know he hasn't been feeling well lately.  What would make you do such a thing?"  "I was just messing around, I didn't think that I was gonna hurt him." Joe said.  "That's your problem, you don't think-"

"Is everything okay? Do we need to call an ambulance?" Bob was standing in the doorway of his office.

"No, it's fine Bob, everything's okay," I said, slowly rising from the floor.  "Thanks though."  My family and I made our way to the elevator.  Nick stared at me with a puzzled look on his face.  I don't know why, but it bothered me the way his eyes seemed to follow my every movement.  I looked over at Joe, he was on the phone again.  I swear, one of these days he's gonna go blind from staring at that screen all day.

Joe's POV:

I felt so horrible at that moment.  I knew there was no one else who could make me feel better than Brianne could.  I flipped open my phone to text her.

Bri, I just totally almost killed my brother.

From Bri: What?!

There's something wrong with Kevin.  We're on our way to the doctor's now.

From Bri: Omg, really?

I'm scared Bri, I don't want anything to happen to him.  I feel like crying.

From Bri: Don't cry baby.  I'm sure everything will be okay.

I know, you're probably right...but I can't help but want to cry.  We've been falling apart at the seams lately.  I just want things to go back to the way they used to be.  Back when we were on top of the world.

From Bri: Give it some time sweetie.  Everything will fall back into place, you'll see!  Have you thought about my question?

Say what?

From Bri: Don't play retard with me Joseph.  I'm not in the mood for games...we're growing up, i need some stability in my life.  Things are changing, and I'm hoping we can continue to grow together.  Now, do you have an answer for me?

I need more time Brianne.  This is a big decision, and I don't want us to rush into anything we're not ready for.

From Bri: Well then, until you have an answer, don't bother to text me.

I slammed my phone shut.  I couldn't believe how much of a bitch Brianne was being.  She was the one constant in my life right now, why was she ruining that?

One hour later, Nick, my father and I were sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office.  I couldn't help but worry that something was seriously wrong with Kevin.  30 minutes later, Kevin and my mother exited the small examination room.  We stood up, hoping to hear some good news; but Kevin just put his head down.  We watched as he silently began to cry.  My mother looked at us and shook her head.
